       ... "It sounds as if it was an ambush. The camp is on the
            left, so we'll go to the right, slowly and taking care".
            They make six sows after the six man with detectors.
            The pace is slow, but much more secure fot them.
            When they have ten minutes left for the explosions, they
            can see the camp between the tress. It's really huge.
            Rambo looks at the dense camouflage that covers it.
            

"It can't be seen even from the air. Let's take care of our

own rearguards. I don't like this silence very much.

Jack, Robie, go to the back", says Rambo.

Jack makes as if he was going to go back, but Robie gets

never nearer Rambo. "Don't waste you breatg, Rambo.

I won't go away from your side", says Robie.

Juli tells her, "Oh, come on Robie. Go with Jack".

"Do you think I don't know what you are doing?

Leave me in peace or I going to hate you all". says Robie.

"All right", says Rambo. "I know it's your right but take

care of you".

Rambo says this and gives a quick look to Jack. Jack

doesn't take his eyes out of Robie. She doesn't take her eyes 

out of Tambo ans keeps close tabs on him. This time, Robie

takes a white arm and two grenades. She knows Jack's

mission is to protect her and she doesn't want to risk his

life because of a suicide action... All this only if she

doesn't see Rambo... or Juli in danger.

At that moment, in the high rank of the army, the screens turn

orange, and then red, and then withe.An enormous musgroom 

fill the monitors. Rage exclamations are heard.

There's surprise and pleasure between the people there.

And just at that moment, the President appears and 

everybody gets mute. He walks sluwly without gibing credit

to his eyes. Then, he looks at the General and asks him

pointing to the screens, "and well, has your boy done this?"

"I'm not sure he is John, but someone is doing our job, and

he's doing very well, Mr. President".

"So, it's him. Can we phone him".

"I don't thing he will answer you. It must be off his..."

"Don't you think he will answer me?! This is

unprecedented and intolerable.

I want an explanation right now!"

The General goes away to the back part of the room taking

furious President with him. There, once alone, he tells 

him, "I've been telling you abouth this since you started

your campaign for the Senate. You know absolutely 

everything of what's going on, and you know very well

on wich side John is. Now, answer me, on wich side are you?""

       ... Rambo, Jack and the Captain know that they have a bit
           more than two hours before the explosion to plan the
           rescue of 100 children. They can't do the same as in the
           other camp. It won't be so easy. The disadvantage is big 
           because the children will be used as shields, so the won't
           be able to use firearms. They will have to fight hand in 
           hand, as in the old days, and besides, without hurting
           the children that will surely believe they are being attacked.
           Besides, they will stay between two fires. Although Rambo                and his people won't shoot, the other wiil do it, and they
           won't care about killing teenagers. All the operation, that
           has taken years, just before the Captain's time, is in the
           hard risk; and in the maps, there are areas marked as
           Rambo's possible hiding places. But this is new, from the
           time when he disappeared.

       ... "They are badly informed. They should pay them more".
            Juli can't go and see what they are doing so that Robie
            doesn't learn, but behing the three men, a rueful Cora
           listened to all the plan.

       ... The expedition takes white arms and grenades, apart
           from timing bombs and dynamite cartridges.
          The amphibious submerged in the landing place, since
          they couldn't go up to land. The submarine instead, went
          back to place itself opposite the enemy mooring but 500
          metres far away.

            Rambo is guided by his detectors. In the small monitor, the
            traps are seen. They are not many because the don't wait
            for an attack, so they drae for them easily. So, they move
            forward relatively quickly for the first kilometre. Then, they
            stop and only Rambo, Jack, the Captain and three more
           men walk forward. The rest keeps bent down looking
           forwards and backwards. Five minutes later, they make
           signals so as to continue but at a slowe pace. The traps
           increase in quantity and danger. Half a kilometres 
           afterwards, Rambo orders a complete halt.

       ... "And the boats whit the children?" asks Rambo.
           "They go together with six missions more and they are
            in the middle of the jungle..." says Jack.
           "God", says the Captain, smoking and walking non-stop.
           "But they are still. They don't even exercise", says Jack.
           "So, they will go on a missions soon. They want them 
           rested". Rambo looks at the time. "The 6 o'clock can by
           today".
           "I have never seen nor been in such a big operation", says
           the Captain.
           "There's more demand. Well, we should go. The explosion
           will help us to take the children out of there, Jack?" asks
           Rambo.
           The Captain's face lighted up and he threw the cigarette.
           "With four big amphibious, it will be enough. They are at
           2 kilometres of the coast. Do you want a heli...?" says Jack.
           "No, nothing with noise", says Rambo.
           "So, we are ready!, says Jack.

         This time they go in a small submarine (that plane that

         crashed into the sea), followed by four gib amphibious
         with a capacity for 30 people. Two soldiers direct each
         one but they take a total of thirty crew-members. 
         Rambo's submarine is full of soldiers. None of them is
         less than 40 years old. Juli and Robie are they only 
         women this time. There are at least 15 women but they
         are not there for being young and beautuful, but for
         they courage and the determination that is seen in their
         eyes. Rambo walks with slow step in the submarine. He
         greets some by theeir names, or touches other when 
         passing by them. Suddenly, he stops in from of a fat
         soldier who tries to hide his face. Rambo stands to
         attention and shouts at him, "Stand up soldier, straight!"
         And then, in a calm voice, he adds. "What am I going to
         do with you, Cora? Are you crazy? Don't you think you
         have fought enough? Jack, we have a stowaway here!"
         Jack gets there in a hurry. "Cora! How many times
         should I tell you...I'm sorry boss. I forget about her
         completely".
         Cora has come in front of Robie and stopped. She asks 
         her if she is the daughter's mother, and tells her that her
         daughter died at the same age as Shari. Rambo shouts
         "Take her out of here". He takes Cora out of there 
         hugging her. "Come on, I need your help at the front".

         Robie is shocked by this and she can barely hold back her
         tears. Rambo finishes his route and comes back to Robie
         who is recovering.
         "I'm sorry. That's another story that I won't tell you now.
         Are you fine, honney? I must go to the front!.
         "Yes, go Rambo. How did her daughter die?"
         "She didn't die. She joined the enemy. It's more acceptable
         for Cora to think that she is dead. I'll tell you ablut this
        some other day. Yes?"

       ... A las 11 hr. en punto está de nuevo en el Salón de
           Comandos con Juli, el Capitán y los dos chicos, el
           Capitán dice que no hay noticias buenas ni malas
           pero sí repercusiones de los hechos en todo el
           mundo, y se ha armado una cobertura gigantezca
           para la conferencia de prensa, a la que se rumorea
           asistirá el Presidente.

           Juli: "¿Qué ira a decir?"
           Rambo: "Como todo fue un éxito se lo van a adjudicar".
           Bobby se acerca a su padre, en voz baja y con aire de
           conspirador, le pregunta: "¿mamá y tú..?"
           Rambo: "¡N0! Es decir...no".
           Bobby: "Ah, porque me parece que ella y el Capitán..."
           Rambo: "¡Bobby! No es asunto nuestro...¿te parece?"
           Bobby: "¡Ya lo creo! Nos llevó a acostar y después
                        desapareció, ella cree que tiene que taparnos".
           Rambo se cubre la cara con las manos, riendo por lo
           bajo le dice a su hijo: "mamá gallina acuesta a los
           pollitos y después se va a matar al gallo..."
           Rambo se interrumpe de golpe, ellos estaban con los 
           codos sobre sus rodillas, y ven las botas de Juli delante
           de sus narices, "oh, no" -dicen al unísono- levantan la
           vista despacio, ella está parada, con las piernas 
           abiertas, manos en las caderas y muy seria.
           Juli: "¿De qué gallinero estaban hablando?"
           El Capirán y Shari, que no entienden nada, solo ven a
           Rambo y a Bobby levantarse aguantando la risa y a Juli
           muy enojada, que les grita: "¡¡Gallinas!!"

       ... A las 12 hr. en punto del mediodía comienza la
           conferencia de prensa, todo el mundo (y no es una 
           metáfora), está esperando; cuando el General entra
           al salón repleto se hace un silencio impresionante.
          Muchísimos periodistas han quedado afuera y siguen
          llegando, en la calle se instalaron pantallas y alto-
          parlantes. El General saluda y dice:
          "No responderé preguntas, pero les diré exactamente
          lo que pasó, tengan paciencia porque debo hacer un
          poco de historia.
          Bien, hace muchos años, comenzó a organizarse en
          nuestro país un ejército clandestino, paralelo, que
          era comandado por mercenarios y terroristas, ellos
          robaban nuestro armamento, naves, aviones y
          submarinos; entrenaban soldados que no eran más
          que niños robados de las calles y que luego de unos
          meses vendían como carne de cañón -un murmullo de
          ira se levanta- era muy difícil identificarlos, los 
          teníamos infiltrados y no sabíamos quienes eran, así
          que nosotros también debimos colarnos entre ellos, y
          así se armó una operación que duró 20 años.

       ... "Ahora puedo decir..." -el General se emociona, y el
           Presidente toma la palabra:
           "Parece que tendré que terminar yo, solo quiero, nobleza
           obliga, dar las gracias por salvar la vida de mi nieto, que
           estaba entre los 960 chicos desaparecidos, al hombre que
           siendo un simple soldado raso, el mejor estratega que he
           conocido, que fue capaz de organizar y dirigir esta
           gigantesca operación, y pedirles a todos que brinden esta
           noche por John Rambo, dondequiera que esté.
          Nada más, señores, muchas gracias".

Fin de la primera de cinco precuelas de La
Verdadera Historia de Rambo: "En la Montaña"

La segunda parte de las crónicas de Roberta Adams
será: "El Hoyo en la Arena", y la tercera:

La cuarta y la quinta todavía no tienen título y son

       ... "Shouldn't we go back to the mountain?" asks Juli.
           "Yes, let's go back. We must change the transport".
           In the entrance tunnel, Rambo tells Jack that all those
           who are going on the mission must ear. And then, he 
           takes Robie by her hand. "We have 40 minutes".

           He takes her, crossing the dome, behind a group of 
           palm tres where he has recreated a place in which
           they a chart children. When turning on one side, the
           landscape changes abruptly. There's metal door with
           a chart where Rambo dials a code. It open and they 
           go into an enormous room caved in the rock.
           He heads for a console and lights it up so that Jack 
           can phone him. Robie can't believe what she sees.
           The place is full of her. All her artistic life is there: 
           her tours and recitals, innumerable photographs
           taken by the cameras of the hotel in Hawaii and
           a wall full of videos. 
           She looks at Tambo and he says, "I had a place like
           this in Argentina".
           "Were you there?"
           "Yes. Fourteen year. But I didn't live my life, but yours".
           Rambo opens a small simulated door thet hides a
           bedroom and a bathroom. He goes in and stretches his
           hand towards her. Robie takes his hand. He takes her by 
          the bed, andat the other side of it, on the wall, an oval 
          window lights up with a landscape of the dream where 
          they spent their childhood: down there, the beach with
          the moon in the water and here, on the edges, the leaves
          of the near trees.

          While they make love to each other, on the windown, they
          are seen as children, playing on that, their beachh, just as
          they remember themselves.
          The silhouettes on the bed, on half light, against the 
          other, that are small, where they break the moon in the 
         water with their games.

       ... Juli ordena un cambio de guardia, para que descansen
           todos los que lucharon, y se va con Bobby y Shari.
           Rambo se dirige a la enfermería, entra sonriente, se cruza
           de brazos y pregunta: "¿fuiste viendo todo?"
           Jack: "Sí, Jefe, fue espectacular ¡Cómo me hubiera
                     gustado estar en el submarino! primero, cortar los
                     tentáculos de ese pulpo y luego, darle el golpe
                     mortal en la cabeza; lo de los vigilantes fue genial
                     y las noticias de los chicos apareciendo por todos
                     lados..."
          Rambo: "Jack...¡Jack! ¿Quieres calmarte y escucharme un
                         minuto? Quiero darte las gracias y también
                    disculparme contigo -y al ver que Jack va a hablar-
                    no, espera, te uniste a mí por una causa que era solo
                    mía, dejaste todo y fuiste leal aún en contra de mí
                    mismo; siento que hemos hecho algo patriótico pero
                    no empezó así; cuando comenzamos esta "cruzada"
                    fue solo por mi hijo y terminó siendo por los hijos de
                    todos, ahora que al fin puedo respirar, quiero decirte
                    gracias por no haberte quejado nunca, ni haber
                   preguntado.
                   Y en cuanto a lo de Robie..."
         Jack: "No sé cómo voy a disculparme con ella, Jefe".
         Rambo: "¿Tú? Ella te debe una explicación en todo caso, si
                       los hirieron fue porque no tiene disciplina, claro que
                    no es un soldado, pero de ninguna manera es tu culpa
                    yo jamás debí darte semejante responsabilidad.
                    Ah, casi lo olvido: sí eres indispensable".
        Rambo sale y desde la puerta lo mira sonriente. Jack abre la
        boca para tragar aire, tiene los ojos mojados, y solo puede 
        levantar una mano en señal de impotencia. Rambo se va a su
        habitación de la "ventana" ovalada, se tira en la cama boca
        arriba, pone las manos debajo de su cabeza, y se duerme
        feliz.

       ...Meanwhile, the General who was Rambo's friend has met
          with the staff afficers for the imminent war in the Atlantid
          in which a nuclear submarine is involved. Nobody knew
          about the "mock action" but all the ships escape from the
          area. One of the General says, "We have to finish with this
          crazy Rambo, or he will finish with the whole planet".
          "Why?" asks the General, who is Rambo's friend. "He is
          doing our job, fighting with mercenaries who train children
          and then send them to be killed. Do you have any interest in
          thet John loses this war?"
          Now everybody shouts and they have different theories.
          Some want to help Rambo; others want to finish him and
          the mercenaries at the same time, and even someone asks
          for him to be left in peace and that they will always have
         time to interfere. "Let see how all this finishes!. The
         General who is talking on the phone asks for silence.
         "The Germans, the Chinese and the Russians want to know
         what's going on..."
               "And everything because his son has been kidnapped..."
               "What are we going to do?" a Lieutenent asks.
               "We'll wait. Yes. But ready to enter into action. We don't
               want the mercenaries to win, do we?" says the General.
        This brought the silence that the General wished. Two bands
        were left of the three. Deep in them, nobody wanted to stay
        with their arms crossed, but what they wanted to do was not
        the same. The General knew there was a mercenary in that               room,but he didn't have him identified, and he was not going
        to be so fool so as to be against him. So he must be someone
        who was in favour of him or impartial, that is the position that
        bests suits a traitor. He decided to watch the group in                      questions. He had to avoid them telling the nuclear submarine
       that Rambo's supposed submarine was a false formation.
       What nobody knows, not even the General, is that the
       mercenaries carry death in their steel abdomen.
       The war secretary picks up the tube from a red telephone.
       "Yes, Mr. President... yes, immediately, Mr. President, yes,
       Mr. President".
       He hangs on and comes back in silence. Then, he adds:
      The President wants to know, and he wants to know it 
      now, why one of our nuclear submarines is alone in the 
      middle of the ocean; why several foreing ministers from
      other countries know it and he doesn't and he said exactly:
      "what the hell is going on?"

       ... En el Alto Mando ya han dado órdenes de detener a loa
           hombres que flotaban en el agua, y que se habían trepado 
           a tierra tratando de escapar, pero todos son rápidamente
           apresados.
           El Presidente mira al General, éste dice:
           "Veré si encuentro a tu nieto", y toma un teléfono.
           Un Ten.: "Señor, por todos lados están apareciendo los
                           chicos perdidos, en hospitales, cuarteles de 
                           bomberos, estaciones de policía; cuentan
                           historias increíbles de..."
           General: "Sí, sí...daré una conferencia de prensa, (y
                           al Pte.) regresa a tu casa y espera a tu nieto".
           Pte.: "Gracias, pero no iré a casa, no quiero ignorar
                    nada nunca más, llamaré a los Ministros de esos
                    tres países para explicarles personalmente lo que
                    sucedió (y como el General lo miró incrédulo
                    agregó) tú haz tu conferencia, yo diré la verdad".

       ... El Pte. sale y todo vuelve a la calma.
           Un Mayor pregunta: "Tuvimos una guerra civil?"
           El General, enojado: "¡No quiero comentarios!
                                               ¡a trabajar!"
           El Mayor insiste, eufórico: 
         "Pero, Señor, si fue maravilloso lo que..."                                          
          El General, Furioso: 
         "Escuche, Mayor, las guerras a veces son necesarias, pero
          maravillosas jamás ¡nunca vuelva a poner esas dos
          palabras en la misma frase!"                                  
          

       ... Todavía es noche cerrada cuando Rambo llega a la
           montaña, Juli está esperando y cuando los ve corre
           hacia ellos, riendo y llorando abraza alternativamente
           a Bobby y a Shary, luego se lleva a la niña consigo y
           deja a Bobby con su padre.
           Rambo, que tiene un nudo en la garganta, mira 
           emocionado a ese muchacho igual a él, y quiere
           explicarle lo que hizo y por qué, pero Bobby, de un
           salto lo abraza haciéndolo retroceder y sacándole
           todo el aire, cada vez que Rambo quiere hablar, tose
           y casi no ve por las lágrimas; Bobby lo mira 
           sonriendo, lo suelta y lo vuelve a abrazar, haciendo
           comentarios como:
           "Siempre supe que tú eras mi padre, desde los 7, sabes?
           estaba seguro que tú nos sacarías ¡qué manera de
           entrar a un lugar! Los hubieras visto, corriendo de un
           lado a otro y llamándote desesperados para decirte
           que yo estaba vivo y Shari también... ella sí tuvo miedo
           todo el tiempo, y cuando dijeron que habían matado
           a tía Robie se volvió loca y atacó a uno de ellos, tuve
           que agarrarla y... oye ¿qué tienes papá? ¿te sientes
           bien?
           Rambo lo mira incrédulo y a duras penas dice:
           "Ajá..."
           "Bien -dice Bobby- vamos a comer, me muero de hambre".
           Y dando en el hombro de Rambo una palmada que lo deja
           tambaleando, se va muy contento llamándolo para que le
           cuente todo.
           Rambo: "Oh Dios mío, he creado un monstruo sin
                          siquiera haber estado ahí..."

       ... Rambo aks him, "Is the Lieutenant your mate?"
           "That's why I'm sure of him and I don't think he is dead".
           Jack informs them, "Boss, the camp is talking to the
           submarine. They already have the message.
           We'll see if they check it. We "are" at 4 hours in the
           open sea".
           "Let's move. If they submerge, I want to be behing the
           island", says Rambo.
           The minutes go by slowly. The wait was endless.
           Robie asks, "If they don't move, will they go to take
                               out the charges?"
           "Be calm. Only 7 minutes went by", says Rambo.
            "suddenly, the periscope went down and the submarine                     started to disappear in the water", says Jack.
            Rambo exclaims, "Excellent! Jack, inform the guards
            that they can clear the area of explosion".
            "Yes, boss".
            "What do the guards do?" What are they exactly?" Juli
             asks.
             Rambo: "They are exactly that, guards. They are not
                           fighters, they're men and women disabled by
                           war that work in a passive way. They help
                           with logistic, follow up. For example, an old
                           woman from a post of flowers can move a
                           satellite. A milk delivery takes messages
                           without arousing suspicion. The maintenance
                           employees install transmitters that allow us
                           to discover and neutralise undesirable
                           elements, cells.
                           Don't forget that they filter in every
                           government".
                           "You have always been in the fight", Robie 
                           says, looking at him with pain, "in war you
                           fight for peace, and in peace you prepare 
                           for war. You will never stop being a soldier..."
                          

           
       ... "No, I would be one if they allowed me", Rambo also
           looks at her with pity, "perhaps now they want to hunt
           me because they know about the power I've accumulated
           but when all I had was my knife, they also hunted me and 
           I couldn't defend. Someone I love was always in danger
           because of my cause. I don't like living hidig, I don't like
           living without you and the children, I couldn't bring
           Bobby up nor see Shari growing. I was deprived of 
           everything, Honey, for my own will, thinking that in that
           way I paid for your lives. What I did all these years was
           placing myself in equal conditions so that we had an
           opportunity.
           I'd like to offer a normal life, my love, but I can't".
           "I'm sorry. Forgive me", she hug him moved, "it doesn't
           matter how we live or die if you promise me that we'll
           be together".
           Rambo: "I promise you, my life".

       ... Esta vez los vigilantes no necesitan desviar el mensaje

           que va directo al teléfono del Ministro de Guerra, que

           había apagado hacía mucho su celular; el Presidente 

           y el General ven en el monitor el recorrido de la

           llamada.

           General: "Bien, quiero todos los teléfonos sobre la

                           mesa, Stuart, el tuyo también".

           

Éste, descompuesto, pone su celular apagado con los

otros, el Presidente, antes que el General pueda hacerlo, lo

toma y lo enciende; detrás del Ministro ya se habían parado

dos Mayores del Ejército, y cuando el celular es activado

y empieza a sonar, lo toman de los brazos y se lo llevan.

Pte.: "Hola", la llamada se corta.

En el bunker terrorista se miran unos a otros sin saber

qué hacer, justo cuando Rambo los llama:

"Abran la puerta y vayan saliendo a nado, si veo un solo

vehículo lo destruiré. No tienen 5 minutos".

La pesada puerta comienza a moverse, en cuanto queda una

rendija aparece una bandera blanca, lo primero que ve

Rambo es a su hijo y a Shari en un chinchorro, sin

remos, sentados; detrás, un centenar de hombres en el agua.

Bobby está calmado y tranquilo como su madre, abrazando

a Shari, que está pálida y llorosa como la suya.

Rambo: "¡Sí! ¡Traiganlos!"

del submarino salen dos hombres rana y se dirigen hacia

los chicos por debajo del agua, los cazas sobrevuelan

amenazantes, los bombarderos también, el submarino de 

Rambo emerge y se acerca.

Rambo: "Naden hacia la derecha y pónganse de 

espaldas".

... el bunker hace implosión, los hombres en el agua se

sumergen para protegerse, la "aviación" ayuda sin que

se lo pidan, bombardeando los restos que se incendian.

Rambo: "¡Retírense! Vayan al hoyo en la arena...

¿yo dije eso? ¡yo no dije eso!

En la montaña una Juli demudada mira la destrucción sin

saber qué pasó con su hijo, el Capitán está serio y no

quiere mirarla.

En el pequeño refugio Robie llora abrazada a Cora, el

Teniente se mantiene silencioso.

De repente, en las pantallas aparecen dos palabras:

"los tengo", sólo están una décima de segundo, pero bastó

para los ojos que no se apartaban de ellas.

 Rambo: "¿Listos?!

Hombres: "¡Como nunca, Jefe!"

Entonces Rambo toma los controles, no ha mirado ni una

vez a los chicos que están en el fondo, sentados, envueltos en mantas. Abre otra consola y empieza a manipular en 

ella, sobre sus cabezas se oye un chasquido fuerte seguido

de un sonido como de roce, el techo del submarino se ha

desprendido y ha caído al mar, otro ruido se deja oír y ellos

empiezan a elevarse dentro de la pequeña cabina, entonces

Rambo enciende el Rotor, los hombres en el agua miran

estupefactos.

El submarino, o lo que queda de él, repleto de 

explosivos, entra al bunker "majestuosamente", como

una anciana reina que va al encuentro de su propia

muerte, con toda la dignidad del mundo.

Entonces si, Rambo se da vuelta a mirarse en los

ojos de su hijo por primera vez.
